Introduction: The Digital Transformation of Education

The digital age has ushered in a suite of powerful tools that are revolutionizing educational delivery. Streaming platforms, video repositories, and podcasts offer dynamic avenues for information exchange and interactive learning. While on-demand video and audio have long been staples, live streaming via platforms like Twitch and YouTube Live are gaining significant traction, evidenced by massive consumption hours and a growing creator base. These platforms present unique opportunities for engaging students and fostering a more fluid interaction between formal, informal, and non-formal educational contexts. Video repositories, such as YouTube, continue to be invaluable for accessing and distributing educational content, supporting diverse fields from music to audiovisual culture. Podcasts, characterized by their accessibility and compatibility with other activities, provide an intimate connection with content creators and have demonstrated their utility in supporting learning environments, enhancing student interest and satisfaction in higher education.

The '¡Mira!' Project: An Innovative Educational Experience

An evaluation of the "¡Mira!" project's impact involved surveying 139 students to understand their platform preferences and perceptions. The findings revealed a clear dominance of YouTube as the primary platform for content consumption, with 82% of students utilizing it. Twitch followed with 13%, and Spotify accounted for 5%. This distribution highlights YouTube's established presence and accessibility for educational video content. While Twitch's user base for this project was smaller, it offered a distinct interactive experience that contributed to higher perceived learning outcomes, suggesting that the real-time engagement facilitated by live streaming can be a powerful pedagogical tool. The lower engagement with podcasts, however, presents an interesting contrast to existing research that often praises their educational benefits, indicating a need for further exploration into effective podcast integration strategies.

Student Perceptions and Learning Outcomes

While the "¡Mira!" project demonstrates the potential of digital tools, it also highlights areas for future development. The limited consumption of podcast episodes, despite their recognized educational value, suggests a need for more targeted strategies to promote their use and integration into curricula. Similarly, the lower engagement with Twitch compared to YouTube, while showing promise for interactive learning, indicates that further efforts may be required to fully harness its pedagogical capabilities. The project's success, however, provides a strong foundation for creating new educational experiences that leverage these technologies. Future research could explore optimal content design for each platform, investigate methods to increase podcast engagement, and further analyze the unique benefits of interactive streaming environments for diverse learning objectives.

The Role of the Teacher in the Digital Age

The integration of technology in education, particularly powerful tools like artificial intelligence, necessitates a critical and reflective approach. It is imperative to strike a balance between innovation and core educational values. The ethical implementation of these technologies is paramount to ensure they strengthen equity in access to education and respect the diversity of social and cultural contexts. While the "¡Mira!" project focuses on established digital media, the broader discourse within "Docencia en la era digital" emphasizes the need for responsible technology adoption. This includes ensuring that technological advancements do not exacerbate existing inequalities but rather serve as tools to create more inclusive and sustainable educational societies. The commitment to ethical principles ensures that technology serves as a genuine enabler of meaningful educational realities.
